The last two months spent marking English exam papers from around the world precludes any other creative thought processes. At times it’s inspiring to hear the young voices, idealistic, wanting a better place to live. Not just for themselves but for everyone. They speak of a world without borders and enemies, that technology must improve education not diminish it. They don’t want robots to the exclusion of teachers; teachers are recognised for the humanity they bring to lessons. Teachers are seen as enablers, organisers, comforters. And they want the best. Let us not crush them or forget that innocence is bliss, ’tis folly to be so-called wise and therefore cynical.
Easing myself away from the contracts, the need to earn money, I will now be write again, back to the fiction, imagination rules; let other voices come to haunt and inspire me.
